BYU-Idaho shooting threat called a ‘bad joke’

BYU-Idaho officials assured students Sunday night that a shooting threat that surfaced on social media is contained, adding that the individual who made the threat has been identified.

Joshua Tanner David, 19, was formally charged with Disturbing the Peace Monday. According to Rexburg Police, David was issued a summons and complaint. A court hearing was scheduled November 4th.

The Rexburg Police Department’s Facebook page said David’s threat to “shoot up BYU-I Monday,” was not a serious threat, but rather a bad joke.

The department thanked everyone for reporting the post.
