Downtown Development Corp. considers public comment

The Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation is working with the public to increase tourism.

Downtown officials said the area is currently doing really well and they intend to build on that success.

“I really hope people will come and express their hopes and ideas, concerns, their wants on what they would like to see happen downtown and to get informed on what the city is planning,” said DDC Executive Director Krisi Staten. “Our corporation’s goals are to promote commerce, culture and leisure activities for downtown.”

The corporation is considering ways to increase the effectiveness of its street signage and beautification efforts.

“We’d love to see the Broadway corridor beautified so that when people are traveling to the museum we can capture those tourists to visit our downtown,” said Staten.

Several city divisions, like Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation, will present their plans for the area at Wednesday’s town hall meeting. Parks and Recreation will present their signage and way-finding plan. The plan will add signage to the greenbelt, leading tourists to downtown attractions.

“We are all about beautifying our downtown,” said Parks and Recreation Director Greg A. Weitzel. “Tourists love our greenbelt, they hang out on our greenbelt, they ride and they walk, but just a block away are some wonderful restaurants and businesses they can see.”

Also to speak at the meeting are the following:

Rebecca Casper, Idaho Falls mayor

Lee Radford, Redevelopment Agency chairman

Brad Cramer, IF Planning Division

Lisa Farris, IF grant administrator

The meeting will be held at the ARTitorium on Broadway in Idaho Falls. Public comment will be accepted from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and brief presentations will be given from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
