Victor upgrades major intersection

A major intersection in Victor is a little safer.

With help from the Idaho Transportation Department, the city was able to redo its crosswalks and add new traffic lights to Main Street.

City leaders said more than 7,000 people travel through the intersection every summer. Most drivers are on their way to Jackson or Driggs, and traffic often gets backed up.

Mayor Zachary Smith said that before the additions, the intersection was giving motorists and pedestrians trouble.

“A lot of people were confused when they would come up to the blinking light and they wouldn’t know what to do when they were turning form (Idaho State Highway) 33 to 31,” said Smith on Monday. “On top of that, it was difficult to make a left-hand turn from 31 to 33 during rush hour.”

The crosswalks will also connect to the new bike path through town.

City leaders also said the traffic light will help as the city grows.
