Jackson honors Amerigas explosion responders
Responders from several agencies including Jackson Hole Fire & EMS, Jackson Police Department, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and more were given Hometown Hero honors before Monday’s Town Council meeting.
Jackson’s new Mayor, Sara Flitner, thanked each and every responder who sprung into action. The explosion on Nov. 20 burned not only Amerigas, but a gym and several cars, prompting evacuations.
Flitner said it was a celebration of the responders’ success and the town’s safety.
“Those people did not know what they were going to see when they walked into that site,” said Flitner. “They drove, they walked, they approached and made sure we were safe.”
Jackson Hole Fire & EMS volunteer Melissa Thomasma said the explosion was unlike anything she had ever seen.
“I’ve just never been prouder to be a part of the team,” said Thomasma. “Honestly, it’s just an amazing crew and we did a really good job that day.”
Incredibly, nobody was killed or even seriously hurt during the explosion.
