Idaho Falls to celebrate Idaho Day on Wednesday

The City of Idaho Falls will be holding a celebration to honor the Gem State.

The first-ever Idaho Day will happen Wednesday to recognize the founding of the Idaho Territory by President Abraham Lincoln on March 4, 1863.

The Colonial Theater will show artifacts from the Museum of Idaho, followed by a program featuring a fourth-grade choir made up of students from two local schools.

But Idaho won’t be the only thing celebrated.

“We are happy to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the City of Idaho Falls as they celebrate the building of the Taylor’s Bridge,” said Ann Rydalch, Heritage Association chair. “That happened 150 years ago. So we have actually two celebrations. We have the honoring of 125 years of statehood, which happened July 3, 1890, and then the sesquicentennial of Taylor’s Bridge for the City of Idaho Falls.”

The Idaho Day reception will start at 6 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m. at the Colonial Theater downtown.
