LDS Family Services, Adoption.com team up to help hopeful parents

LDS Family Services and Adoption.com are teaming up to make the adoption process a little easier.

The agency is going to pay the website’s monthly fee for some qualifying hopeful parents.

LDS Family Services used to operate its own adoption website. It stopped service in December, but said there would still be ways to make an adoption, and this is that new way.

“LDS families felt very abandoned, and I think a lot of LDS families are now very happy to see not just a continuation of services, but a better opportunity that provides them with more exposure and reach to adoption situations,” said Adoption.com CEO Nathan Gwilliam.

There are fewer qualifications than before, but there are still some criteria you have to meet for the church to pay the website’s monthly fee.

You have to have a bishop’s recommendation, be sealed or married in the temple and have a valid adoption home study.

If you are not a member of the LDS church you can still use the services.

“It’s available for everyone. The only question is whether the church is covering the expense,” Gwilliam said.

He said adoption is a great opportunity.

“It can help provide a great home for a child. It can help a family fill that void, and it can help provide a great solution to women that are pregnant and considering adoption and are in difficult situations,” said Gwilliam.

Adoption.com is holding an open house in Salt Lake City this Saturday to help parents who want to adopt.
