Idaho Falls looks to fill vacancy on council

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper is accepting applications to fill the vacancy on the City Council.

Councilman Dee Whittier died March 1 following a heart attack.

According to Idaho law, the mayor will appointment someone to fill his position with the approval of the City Council. The appointee will fill the position, ideally at the beginning of April, until the remainder of Whittier’s term. The successful applicant who wishes to remain in office will may choose to run in this fall’s election.

“As there is a steep learning curve, it would be preferable that applicants have experience with municipal processes and budgets, as well as experience with strategic planning,” the city said.
