Pocatello educator named interim superintendent

Dr. Douglas Howell has been named interim superintendent of the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District.

The school board said Howell was hired for a two year period beginning July 1. Howell is currently the district’s Human Resource Director. He has held that position for nine years and served in various other positions over the past 23 years.

“I am excited and honored for this opportunity and look forward to working closely with the Board of Trustees, all district employees and community to serve the needs of children,” said Howell.

“We are thrilled to continue strong leadership under Dr. Howell and our administrative team,” said Board Chair Janie Gebhardt.

According to Gebhardt, the process along with community and employee feedback helped the board arrive at the best possible decision.

Howell has a long history with the district. He taught and coached at Alameda Junior High for 11 years, served as an elementary and secondary building administrator for five years and began his district office administrative duties in 2006.
