Driver cited after 2 missionaries hit in crosswalk

The driver police say hit two LDS sister missionaries in a Chubbuck crosswalk has been cited.

Matthew Belton, 26, was issued a misdemeanor citation for inattentive driving, police said Tuesday.

On Monday, the two missionaries were struck while walking in a crosswalk at Yellowstone Avenue and Breneman Street on Monday after 2 p.m.

“He stopped. He seemed remorseful. But I think he sped through the sign,” said Paul Duran, who saw the accident unfold.

Both women were transported to Portneuf Medical Center. They were treated and released Monday.
