Chubbuck, Pocatello fire departments discuss merger

The Pocatello Fire Department and Chubbuck Fire Department are considering merging into a single entity.

On Wednesday Chubbuck city leaders held a special work session to learn more about the proposal.

If the merger goes through, it’s slated to cost an initial $378,000. But Chubbuck Fire Chief Eric King said that in the long run, it would save both departments money.

He said the Chubbuck Fire Department is currently short on a manpower and equipment, and said a formal agreement with the Pocatello Fire Department would solve a lot of its problems.

Both cities are scheduled to discuss the issue Monday at 10 a.m. at Pocatello City Hall.
