Elementary teacher pleads guilty to DUI

The Pocatello elementary teacher charged with an aggravated DUI last May has changed her plea to guilty. This comes a week after a court hearing where Judge David Nye excluded the defense’s expert witnesses.

Amy Smith was released on bond last week and will remain free on bond until her sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for June 22.

Smith was charged in May after an incident at Edahow Elementary School. Witnesses said Smith drove erratically on Pocatello Creek Road before turning into the school’s parking lot. She then hit a cement post and crosswalk sign, which in turn hit a school crossing guard.

The prosecution says Smith has entered a plea agreement with her change of plea.
