YMCA promotes summer fitness with Healthy Kids Day

The YMCA is working to get kids throughout the greater Idaho Falls area to be more active this summer. Saturday, the organization will host Healthy Kids Day. Local area kids will be able to participate in several activities, including a bouncer and a miniature rock wall.

Health experts from the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center will coach parents on how to promote healthier lifestyles. YMCA CEO Teresa Watson said this event will be a good opportunity for kids to sign up for summer programs. She says inactive kids can lose more than just their healthy lifestyle during summer vacation.

“When kids are not in school, when they aren’t reading, if they’re not participating and going places and learning new things, they actually fall back from where they were at the end of the school year. Summer time is so important to keep kids active and doing active things,” she said.

The event will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
