Man arrested near sheriff’s office on drug, domestic charges

An Idaho Falls man is being held in the Bannock County Jail after he was arrested near the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

John R. Adams Jr. was arrested on multiple charges, including domestic battery, violating a no-contact order issued after a prior domestic incident, disrupting an emergency call and misdemeanor injury to a child. Adams was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Capt. Kevin Fonnesbeck was leaving the sheriff’s office when he saw a black Dodge Charger blocking a silver Chrysler in the right lane of South Fifth Street, just south of the sheriff’s office.

Fonnesbeck said he saw a man trying to pull two females out of the car. One of the women was Adams’ ex-wife, the other a teenage stepdaughter.

While the officer detained Adams, a passenger in Adams’ car sped away from the scene in the Charger.

In a subsequent search, Adams was found to be carrying several large bundles of cash, methamphetamine and marijuana, Fonnesbeck said.

Deputies are still searching for the black Charger.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 236-7100.
