5 hospitalized after Jefferson County crash

Five people were hospitalized after a crash in Jefferson County, Idaho State Police said.

It happened at the intersection of 4200 East and 550 North just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

A 15-year-old driving a Pontiac Grand Prix with two 15-year-old passengers was headed west on 550 North. Stephanie Telford, 36, of Rigby, was traveling southbound in a Toyota Tacoma with an 8-year-old passenger.

ISP said Telford’s truck hit the car after the 15-year-old driver didn’t yield at a stop sign.

The teen driver was taken to Madison Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. The other two teenagers and the 8-year-old were taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Telford was taken by air ambulance to EIRMC, where she was in critical condition as of early Thursday morning.

Troopers said the only person wearing a seat belt was the 8-year-old.

The 15-year-old driver didn’t have a license but did have a learner’s permit, police said.

The intersection was blocked for about two and a half hours as crews cleared the wreck.
