Idaho Gives has more success in 2015 than previous years

Idaho Gives events kicked off its 24-hour statewide period of donating Thursday.

“The whole purpose is to get the public to show support for their favorite nonprofit by going online by making just modest donations,” said Carrie Scheid with Idaho Gives.

The event is a chance for Idahoans to show support for their favorite nonprofit charities by making financial donations. Nonprofits, like the Idaho Art Lab said many organizations get most of their contributions from the event.

“In these rural towns, we often feel alone in our struggle, but the Idaho Art Lab is trying to network artists together and give them a place to come and create,” said co-founder Kara Hidalgo.

Idaho Gives said eastern Idaho is home to more than 90 charities and nonprofits, with half of them in them in Idaho Falls.

“Without donations downtown wouldn’t be inviting to tourists,” said Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corp. Executive Director, Krisi Staten. “A lot of our local businesses have teamed up with local nonprofits to spread their mission, to spread their word and to help increase the funds that are given to those nonprofits.”

Idaho Gives started in 2013 and raised more than $570,000. The event raised more than $780,000 in 2014.

Event organizers said they hope to surpass that number this year and said almost everyone can find a charitable cause they like.

As of 6:30 p.m., Idaho Gives had raised more than $877,000.

To donate, visit the Idaho Gives Website before 11:59 p.m.
