Thunderstorm to blame for injury accident

Monday afternoon thunderstorms led several cars to slide off or crash along Interstate 15 in Fort Hall.

Several accidents were reported along the stretch of interstate from Chubbuck to Blackfoot. With one injury accident south of the main Fort Hall exit just before 5:30 p.m.

Idaho State Police say Amelia Brown-Olea, 37, of Pocatello, ID., was stopped on the left shoulder of Interstate 15 in a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, waiting for a sudden hailstorm to subside.

Valeria Martinez, 28, of Blackfoot, ID., was driving northbound in the left lane of Interstate 15, in a 2011 Buick Regal. When Martinez encountered the hailstorm, she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into Brown-Olea’s vehicle.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Martinez was transported by ground ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, ID.
