Deputies: Man runs over sign supporting bond

A man is being blamed for running over a sign supporting the Bonneville School District 93 bond on the day voters were going to the polls to decide the issue, the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the northwest corner of 25th East and 49th South near Sand Creek Golf Course in Idaho Falls on Tuesday around 9:20 a.m. Deputies say a witness who claimed to have seen Matt Cardon of Bonneville County run over a “Yes” sign followed him and called police.

Deputies said multiple other signs had been vandalized overnight.

Deputies questioned Cardon. He was ultimately given a traffic citation for illegal lane usage.

The signs were back up shortly after the incident.

A resident of the area said people who support the $56 million bond have been putting their signs away at night to prevent them from being vandalized.

The bond, which would be used to build a new high school to alleviate crowding problems in the district, fell short of the supermajority it need to pass in March.
