Man who died in canoe accident identified

Authorities have identified the man who died after a canoe capsized in the Salem area of the Henry’s Fork on Monday morning.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday the man was Sjon Trent Johnson, 24.

According to a news release Monday, Johnson was trapped in a log jam in the middle of the river around 10:30 a.m. First responders from Fremont and Madison counties and family members pulled him out. He was transported to the hospital, where he died.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is reminding people to use caution as well as proper safety equipment when on the water.
