Man dies in Blackfoot crash

A man died in a crash early Friday morning on Meridian Road and U.S. Highway 91 near the Short Stop in Blackfoot.

Idaho State Police said a 2009 Dodge Challenger was traveling southbound on Meridian Street at 2 a.m., and the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at U.S. 91. The car crossed all four lanes of travel on the highway, went off the shoulder on the east side of the road, and vehicle struck a tree and overturned.

Two occupants were ejected from the car.

One of the occupants, Irving Escalante, 27, of Armona, Calif., died at the crash.

Two of the occupants were transported to Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello, one by air and another by ground ambulance. Another occupant was transported by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) in Idaho Falls.The final occupant was transported by air ambulance to EIRMC.

Those in the car were not wearing seat belts, and alcohol was involved, ISP said.
