Truck catches fire on I-86

One of the lanes on Interstate 86 near Simplot is open after a truck caught fire.

Idaho State Police said Ardis Stagner, 30, of Billings, Montana, was traveling east in a truck pulling a trailer when the vehicle had a “mechanical malfunction,” and the trailer tires ignited around 9 a.m. Friday.

Stagner tried to put out the fire while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.

No one was hurt, ISP said.

As of 1 p.m., the eastbound right lane was still blocked.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use an alternate route if possible while emergency crews are cleaning up the fire near milepost 58, Idaho State Police said.
