Idaho Falls Zoo raises money for conservation efforts

This season at the Idaho Falls Zoo, one quarter will work two ways.

As guests come in or leave the zoo, they can drop a token into one of three boxes to vote on a conversation effort they would like to support.

“It’s basically half of your quarter is going local, and half of it is going to the global conservation of your choice,” said Sunny Katseanes, education curator of the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park.

An additional quarter is added onto admission for guests at the zoo.

The quarter becomes a token, guests will get to choose from one of three international causes that they’d like to support.

The conservation efforts will be for causes around the world for snow leopards, African penguins, and Gorongosa birds.

“This is going to be a project for the entirety of the Idaho Falls Zoo, so from now on the zoo’s mission has always been a very key component of conservation and from now the guests are going to help us fulfill that mission both locally and globally and here at our zoo by contributing to the quarters for conservation program,” said Katseanes.

Currently there aren’t any plans to have the fundraiser during the zoo’s off-season.
