Aimee Jackson wins student of the year award
As Aimee Jackson attended Madison High Graduation ceremonies she had mixed feelings.
“I’m really excited about what’s coming next, like going to college, but at the same time there’s a lot of nostalgia, because I’m going to miss a lot of the people here,” Jackson said. “There’s been a lot of amazing community members that have done a lot for me.”
Jackson loves math, so it’s not surprising that her advice to students still in high school had a math component to it.
“It’s in the little things you do,” Jackson said. “Every little day, every little thing that you do matters. Even if you don’t think it matters it does – it’s a sum – everything added up is what it is if you want to talk math.”
Walking across the stage rehearsing for the real thing, knowing she was actually graduating brought mixed feelings for Jackson.
“I’m really excited about what’s coming next, like going to college, but at the same time there’s a lot of nostalgia, because I’m going to miss a lot of the people here,” Jackson said. “There’s been a lot of amazing community members that have done a lot for me.”
Graduation night Jackson joined the hundreds of other seniors walking across the stage being handed their diplomas. She also had the honor of being one of the closing speakers for graduation where her message was:
“That it’s in the grind, the every day grind, not the grand, what’s huge and what’s going on that the biggest difference can be made.”
Jackson will head to the Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall to study mechanical engineering.
