2 arrests made, victim ID’d in Pocatello death

Police have arrested two people in connection with the death of 24-year-old Lric Allen Elkins at an apartment building on the 100 block of North Grant Street.

Pocatello police were called to the building around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Capt. Terry Felsman confirmed to Local News 8 that both Jesse Bruce, 25, and Tyrell Dixey, 31, were arrested. Bruce is charged with “homicide murder first/second degree” while Dixey’s charge is unknown.

Meanwhile, friends of Elkins spent Saturday remembering him as a talented singer with a bright future.

“He could just stand there and throw it out and you’d just kind of stand there going, ‘Wow, this kid’s got some talent,'” said Mike Cossaboom, who knew Elkins for about a year.

Both police and friends say Elkins didn’t live on North Grant Street. Police said his last known address was in Chubbuck.

Neighbors told Local News 8 that Elkins was visiting friends at the time of his death, and that they thought his death may be drug or gang-related. Police haven’t confirmed this.

“I think he just got caught up in the wrong group,” said Heather Cossaboom.

On Saturday morning, police widened the crime scene perimeter and a team from the Idaho State Forensics lab arrived on scene.

Police said Elkins body is currently in Boise where, an autopsy will be performed.

“That’s the sad part of it all is the talent within him is now – it’s not gonna be something we can all enjoy,” said Mike Cossaboom.

Police have offered few additional details about the investigation. They previously said it would take several days to complete.

Local News 8 has placed a call to Bannock County Prosecutor Steve Herzog to learn what charges have been filed, but as of Saturday afternoon, that call has not been returned.
