Standoff with police ends peacefully

A man who barricaded himself inside a home on Woodruff Avenue in Idaho Falls is back home.

Idaho Falls police said the 37-year-old man barricaded himself in a room at a townhouse on N. Woodruff Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Agents from Idaho State Probation and Parole went to talk to the man regarding a parole violation that occurred Thursday morning. The man refused to talk and barricaded himself in a bedroom and threatened suicide.

The agents thought they heard a firearm being loaded and called police around 2:30 p.m.

The SWAT team was activated and were able to negotiate the man out of the bedroom around 4:30 p.m. They discovered he did not have a gun.

Police said the man was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center to be examined and was cleared to be released.

Idaho Falls police said they have no pending criminal charges against the man.

Police blocked off Woodruff between Caribou and Kearney streets, the same area where road construction is taking place, for a short period of time during the incident.
