Semi trying to pass farm tractor collides with car on I-15
A semi-truck trying to avoid hitting a farm tractor on Interstate 15 collides with a car, sending the driver to the hospital.
The accident happened south of Blackfoot at milepost 89 in the southbound lanes Friday at approximately 2:50 p.m.
Idaho State Police said Mckenzie Dschaak, 18, of Rockland, was driving the farm tractor in the right lane.
Melanie Hawkes, 34, of Rexburg was driving her car, a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, in the left lane. A Freightliner semi swerved to miss the tractor and struck the Cobalt, troopers said. The car went into the median and rolled.
Hawkes was taken to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. Her condition is unknown. Police said she was wearing her seatbelt.
The driver of the truck and Dschaak were not taken to the hospital, police said.
The name of the truck driver was not released.
The Interstate was partially blocked for about two hours while crews worked to clear the road.
The crash is still under investigation by Idaho State Police.
