Immigration agent charged in Utah attack due in court
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent accused of slamming a man’s face into a concrete floor is scheduled to be back in court for pretrial hearing.
Jon Martinson Jr. has pleaded not guilty to violating federal laws and constitutional rights that forbid the use of unreasonable force by law enforcement officers.
Wednesday’s hearing at a federal court in Salt Lake City is the final one before a five-day jury trial is set to begin on July 13.
Attorneys have been arguing over whether defense can cross examine the victim in the case.
ICE is responsible for removing immigrants who are in the country illegally, but the indictment does not detail the victim’s immigration status in July 2013, when the incident occurred.
