Man arrested for hitting police officer

A man was arrested for hitting an officer after trying to take a shopping cart with merchandise out of a Rigby store without paying.

Rigby Police said Jerry Jenson, 53, was trying to leave the Family Dollar on June 9, 2015.

The store manager tried to stop Jenson and kicked the manager, police said.

Police report said when the officer asked him to go outside and meet him by his patrol car, Jen started walking away from the officer.

The officer tried to detain Jenson and was struck on his back at the left shoulder. Two other officers arrived and were able to handcuff and place Jenson under arrest.

Jenson is being charged with battery on a police officer, felony burglary, and misdemeanor battery.

Jenson has also been given a Notice of Trespass, advising he is not allowed to return to Family Dollar or he will be arrested.
