Work on new Pocatello dog park could begin next week

Work could begin on Pocatello’s second dog park as early as next week.

The park, which will be located on the site of the city’s former animal shelter, is being built with a $73,000 donation from Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter.

Once completed at the end of July, ownership of the new park will transferred to the city, which will then be responsible for maintaining it.

Mary Remer, director of the Pocatello Animal Shelter, said the city’s only existing dog park is often overcrowded.

“It’s almost overused. It’s a small area. It’s usually got lots of dogs in there,” said Remer.

Remer said the new park will have areas for both small and large dogs.

The site is right next to the existing animal shelter on Avenue of the Chiefs.
