Special Olympics torch relay enters Idaho

“There’s a thrill, there’s a real thrill when you get in the pool…you feel really pumped,” said Carlie Wiseman, a Special Olympics athlete.

That thrill is exactly what keeps Carlie Wiseman swimming to her goals.

A 16 year-old special athlete, Carlie’s season ended last weekend at the state Special Olympic games, butshe’s not stopping there.

“I’m probably going to try to swim year-round, mostly people don’t but personally i think the experience is good,” said Wiseman.

On Friday, she’ll be joined with many Special Olympic athletes as they relay throughout eastern Idaho.

The torch carrying symbolizes the kick off the world Special Olympics in Los Angeles next month.

Although Carlie’s a swimmer, she’s ready to run.

“I’ve seen my brother do it, he did it two years ago and the look on his face, I think that’s the best part, ” said Wiseman.

Carlie’s teammate, Vanessa Hicks also has her favorite part to the festivities.

“Just meeting new friends, that’s what I like about it’ said Hicks

The friendships and the positive vibes, yet with a competitive nature unlike most athletes.

Just ask Carlie about her ultimate dream.

“I want to someday become a professional swimmer…I think that would be amazing” said Wiseman.

The route has not been finalized just yet for tomorrow, there will be a big celebration at the Sleep Inn Suites following the relay.
