Pocatello Kiwanis Club hosts annual breakfast fundraiser

The Pocatello Kiwanis Club hosted its 48th annual Bing Hong Breakfast over the weekend in Tydeman Park, attracting hundreds of people from the community.

Having been held for nearly half a century now, the breakfast has become a staple for some.

“It’s part of the routine for the holiday. You always look forward to it,” said attendee David Robinson. When asked about the food, he said, “Couldn’t be better.”

After coming to nearly a dozen of these breakfasts, Robinson said he doesn’t come just to satisfy his appetite.

“We think what (the Kiwanis Club) does for the community is great, we just want to come down and show our support,” he said.

As their biggest fundraiser of the year, all the money raised at the breakfast will help the club fund programs for children in the area.

The club’s president, Tim Shurtliff, mentioned just a couple of the various projects they do in the community.

“We support key clubs at Highland High School and Pocatello High School, BackPack for Kids and the Back2School giveaway program,” said Shurtliff.

In addition to the food, the breakfast had some entertainment, particularly with Pocatello and Chubbuck’s mayors Brian Blad and Kevin England. The two competed in a pancake flip-off and a pancake frisbee toss.
