Officers involved in Bonneville County shooting identified

The names of the law enforcement officers involved in the shooting of a man early Monday morning at a convenience store have been released.

In a news conference Tuesday, police said the following were involved in a shooting at the Exxon gas station on Yellowstone and North Woodruff that left Ricky L. Mosley, 31, of Idaho Falls in critical condition:

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office: Deputy Nick Contreras (field training officer with four years of service in law enforcement), Austin Slegel (patrol deputy with six years of service) and Chris Rix (patrol deputy with seven years of service).
Idaho Falls Police Department: Bart Whiting (senior patrolman with seven years of service) and Dan Godfrey (senior patrolman with 17 years of service).

These officers are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which the sheriff’s office said will take some time to complete.

The sheriff’s office said Monday that Mosley was suspected of hitting a pregnant woman several times in the face, head and stomach.

Officers pulled him over at the gas station, where things escalated and he became confrontational, the sheriff’s office said. They used Tasers and shot Mosley.

Police did not disclose Tuesday who fired the shots.

The Southeast Idaho Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting. The team is composed of various local law enforcement agencies from the surrounding area that were not involved in the incident.
