Idaho Falls gears up for 4th of July celebrations

“This is what we call our launch area, these are what are called mortars- they’re specifically designed for the fireworks, ” said Ken Anderson, fire marshall for the city of Idaho Falls.

An intricate design isn’t just what makes the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration so special.

“There’s some really great views all around the river this year, I think they can expect a great show and a great show from all different kinds of angles that we haven’t seen for a long time” said Anderson.

This year, the city cleaned up around the river- giving pristine views to everyone stopping by for the celebration.

With the prime viewing, it’s important to think: safety first.

“The water looks refreshing and I know it’s supposed to be really warm this weekend but please stay out of the water,” said Kerry McCullough, public information officer for the city of Idaho Falls

“We want to be really careful around the water this year so we don’t have someone accidentally slip in and end up with an accidental drowning or water accident so we want everyone to please be careful with their kids and their families as they gather around,” said Anderson.

Volunteers began unloading just some of the fireworks for the show this weekend.
The population of Idaho Falls nearly doubles for the festivities, so the big thing to remember? Plan ahead.

“Just know that it’s going to take you an hour and half to get home as opposed to 15 minutes,” said McCullough.

For those looking to reserve a spot along the river- you cannot do that until 6 a-m on the 4th, remember- just because you put a blanket down, it does not mean your spot is safe.

Someone should physically be there to save their spot.
