Pocatello police have zero tolerance for illegal fireworks

Fire concerns have police cracking down harder this Fourth of July. The Pocatello Police Department said it will have a zero tolerance policy for any illegal firework activity.

The PPD will go straight to issuing citations for any violations instead of first giving a verbal warning.

This is in light of the burn ban issued by Bannock County commissioners. The extreme heat and dry weather make conditions perfect for wildfires.

Capt. Steve Stone said there’s been enough warning on the fire ban rules to be able to forego a warning.

“The fireworks laws have not changed for quite some time. Pretty much anything that shoots into the air or goes out of your control is an illegal firework in the city,” Stone said.

Officers will increase enforcement on intoxicated drivers this weekend as well.
