Fire burns shop storing ammunition

A fire engulfed a garage filled with ammunition in Jefferson County on Friday around 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Rigby, Ririe and Menan put out the flames at 388 North and 4450 East. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the large amount of ammunition and fuel in the garage made fighting the fire “more complicated than usual.”

“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to use extra caution when using burn barrels or burning waste and plant materials during the summer months. Winds can be unpredictable and, when combined with dry conditions, can cause situations where fires can easily get out of control. ” — statement from sheriff’s office

No one was hurt in the fire.

The sheriff’s office said it is investigating the cause, but says it does not suspect foul play.

Firefighters said the fire apparently started in a field behind the buildings.
