Local business provides accessible gluten-free options

More gluten-free options are available in southeastern idaho, but with that comes with a gluten-free lifestyle.

“Our diet for the last three generations has been based on wheat, wheat, wheat. So what’s happened is we’ve genetically modified this stuff and we’ve changed it and hybridized it. The wheat that we have today is not the same wheat that we had in the 1900’s” said Brady Wirick, a chiropractic neurologist.

The gluten-free diet, some call it a fad, some call it a need; but for many people, it’s helped them with some not-so-pleasant experiences.

Gluten is in lots of things we eat, from pasta, to cookies, and bread.

When gluten is taken out, sometimes the flavor can go with it.

One local business is trying to change that.

Mom’s-Place Gluten Free want’s to debunk the myths of food.

“A lot of people think it’s going to be difficult, it’s going to be expensive, and it’s going to taste bad,” said Jan Nielsen, owner of Mom’s-Place Gluten Free.

Using a flour with a cup for cup substitution, going gluten-free becomes easier for those who need it.

“I’ve seen seizures go away just by getting rid of gluten” said Wirick.

The science is slowly becoming more and more apparent for gluten, but Dr.Wirick says it’s working wonders.

“It makes life a whole lot easier for these people,” said Wirick.

Mom’s place also hosts classes with local health professionals on cooking and living gluten free.
