Proposed pet adoption fee increase

The Pocatello City Council is looking at increasing fees for pet adoptions. On the table is a $5 adoption fee hike, bringing fees for dogs up to $120 and fees for cats up to $90.

The adoption fee increase would help with the cost of vaccinations, food, spaying and neutering.

“People should not be intimidated by the fees, its a very small increase, probably about $5. And the fees do go back directly into the shelter’s budget for taking care of the animals,” said Danielle Garcia shelter manager.

Pet owner Martha Steele believes the fees would be a good idea.

“I think its worthwhile to adopt animals at that price. And they’re still worth it, and it helps all the way around,” said Steele.

City Council will be meeting Aug. 20 to make a decision.
