Concealed carry permit costs vary from county to county

Concealed carry was a hot topic during Idaho’s legislative session this year.
Gun rights activist rallied to make sure their second amendment right remains protected.

But some are concerned that Idaho counties could be cashing in on your right to carry a weapon.
Depending on where you live you could pay a whole lot more or less to legally carry your weapon.

Earlier this year the National Rifle Association sponsored a bill in the Idaho legislature that would change how concealed carry permits are issued.

“They reworded our legislation and changed the fee structure”

Idaho adopted the law July 1st making it easier for everyone get a license but not for counties issuing them.According to the attorney generals website, the fee for the original permit is $20 and renewal is $15. But Idaho code says a county sheriff may collect any additional fees necessary to cover the cost of processing.

“Some of the counties are finding that the $20 that they’re allowed to charge in addition to the processing fees isn’t covering their expenses”

Even though legislation has been passed to lower the price of getting a license, some are asking should the state bite the bullet and require all counties to charge the same fee.

“Categorizing someones right and putting a price tag on it, I think it should be the same all around.”

To get a new permit in Bonneville county it costs $62.45.Go just a few miles down the road and Jefferson County charges $75.00. And if you live in Teton County, according to their website, you’ll pay one hundred dollars for the same thing others are getting for almost forty dollars less.

If you are interested in having a concealed weapon you can take a concealed carry class anywhere but you can only be issued a permit in your home county.
