Two-year old hospitalized after lawnmower accident

A two-year old boy is recovering at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls after he was run over by a lawnmower in Rexburg.

Two-year old Kayden Emery was backed over with a lawnmower last Thursday by an extended family member. Paramedics arrived quickly and made the call to have him airlifted to EIRMC in critical condition. Emery lost his left foot and suffered deep lacerations to his left thigh.

Derek Emery, Kayden’s father, said he knows a large number of these accidents are fatal, but he’s very thankful he is still alive. Derek says Kayden is getting excellent care at EIRMC. He will be having skin graft surgery on his amputation Monday.

The family hopes to further his long-term care at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City. They feel the hospital is equipped to give Kayden the physical therapy he needs to properly adjust to a new lifestyle.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with medical costs. If you would like to donate, click here.

The family said any excess funds they receive will be set aside in a scholarship fund for Kayden.
