Bonneville County Prosecutor says use of force justified

The Bonneville County Prosecutor says the use of force by law enforcement, to subdue Ricky L. Mosley was justified.

The investigation of the incident reveals that Mosley refused to show his hands, repeatedly saying he wouldn’t. Mosley was agitated during the confrontation.

At one point Mosley lunged at an officer as the officer was attempting to taze him. At that time officers opened fire. 22 shots were fired and Mosley was hit five times in the leg and groin.

Mosley did not have a weapon. He did have a phone that he raised at officers, which the officers thought it was a weapon.

Mosley is in fair condition. Mosley is charged wth felony domestic battery.

The five officers involved in the shooting are:

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office: Deputy Nick Contreras (field training officer with four years of service in law enforcement), Austin Slegel (patrol deputy with six years of service) and Chris Rix (patrol deputy with seven years of service).
Idaho Falls Police Department: Bart Whiting (senior patrolman with seven years of service) and Dan Godfrey (senior patrolman with 17 years of service).
