Local WWII veteran talks about VJ Day
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
On Aug. 14th, 1945 Japan agreed to unconditionally accept Allied surrender terms.
We talked to a local WWII veteran and he tells us why it’s important to celebrate veterans.
“It takes a lot of faith and patriotism to do what these fellows do,” said Col. Byron Meader.
He said WWII vets didn’t start talking about their experiences until about 50 years after D-Day.
“You see people dying every day the blood, the unnecessary lives lost,” he said. “You didn’t want to talk about it.”
