Department of Correction investigates prisoner’s death

An Idaho Department of Correction inmate was found unconscious in his cell at the South Boise Correctional Complex at 1:20 p.m. Sunday. Dean Clay Miller was pronounced dead of an apparent suicide at 1:50 p.m.

Miller, 47, was sentenced to 28 years to life in 2008 in Bannock County. He was sentenced for assault with intent to commit robbery, burglary, and possession of a controlled substance. Miller had a prior conviction for burglary in Bannock County in 2005 and had been classified as a persistent violator. He would have been eligible for parole in 2036.

The Department of Correction has asked the Ada County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the circumstances surrounding Miller’s death.
