Bus routes could be reduced

The Pocatello Regional Transit is teaming up with local leaders to find out the public’s opinion on a plan which would reduce the number active bus routes in the Pocatello-Chubbuck area.

The Pocatello regional transit director explained why the cost of the fixed route is important.

A map was shown by Dave Hunt, the public transportation, director outlining the local fixed routes, which are not being fully used by bus riders.

“Every mile that we operate has a cost attached to it. When you publish a fixed route, that means that regardless if someone is getting on that bus or not the cost remains. So what we need to do is match the demand,” said Hunt.

Another public meeting will be held on Oct. 21. They will propose the idea of reducing the bus routes to the city council, in December.
