Search for missing Wilson man will resume Saturday

Approximately 70 people joined the Teton County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue as it combed the Granite Creek area in search of a missing Wilson, Wyoming man. Friday’s search concluded without sign of the man at around 4:30 p.m.

Bernhard Reitmann, 85, was reported missing by his family on Wednesday evening when he failed to return home from a day of hunting.

The search effort Friday focused on a 14 square mile area on the west side of Granite Creek. Reitmann was last known to be traveling on the Highline Trail in the Granite Creek area. He was wearing a blue jacket, a hunting cap, and boots. He was also carrying a rifle when he left on the hunting trip.

The general elk hunting season starts Saturday, and Teton County Search and Rescue is reminding hunters and recreationists that an active search is underway. They expect over 10 volunteers and two helicopters to join the search effort Saturday.

Anyone with information regarding Reitmann’s location is encouraged to contact the Teton County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 733-2331.

Anyone interested in adding their name to a list of potential volunteers should call (307) 732-8846 before 10 p.m. Friday to sign up.

Volunteers will report to the Search and Rescue Hangar at 7 a.m. Saturday before heading to the search area.
