Airport may relocate

The possibility of relocating or expanding the Rexburg-Madison County Airport is in talks.

However, there are some kinks to work out before they move forward with the project.

There are two major issues the project is facing.

The first one is the location of the airport. Essentially it doesn’t have the space it would need to expand the runway.

Currently, the runway is 4,200 feet.

The Rexburg City Engineer Keith Davidson said they want to extend it a little over 2,000 feet.

Another factor is the North Teton River and Highway 33, which surround the airport.

The Rexburg City Engineer said a study is being done to remove the hurdles.

“An airport that would meet the needs of the future plans coming in, and so looking at that, we would basically need a longer runway for the airport to meet those future needs,” said Davidson.
