7-year-old boy hit by car, Rigby

Rigby Police said over frosted windows contributed to an where a boy was hit on a bicycle early Thursday morning.

Joell Zundel said she was startled by the sound of a tire popping outside her home.

“It was very scary. Just the noise, the commotion, and then seeing them both the little boy and who was driving the car as upset as they were,” said Zundel.

A Rigby girl 18, was taking her little brother and sister to school.

As she was driving through the neighborhood, she made a right turn.

She didn’t see a 7-year-old boy riding his bike.

When she saw him, she slammed on the brakes but not before clipping the end of the boy’s bike and popping her front tire.

“This could have ended up way more serious,” said Carol Shackelford, with the Rigby police.

The 7-year-old walked away from the accident with some cuts and scratches.

The girl said he was in her blind spot, but Rigby Police say the accident shouldn’t have happened.

“This is an example of her being in a hurry. She had to get her little brother and sister to school, and she didn’t take the time to fully scrape the windows,” said Shackelford.

Even though scraping frost off windows is a pain, it could end up saving a life.
