BLM Rangers seek information about abandoned horses

Bureau of Land Management law enforcement rangers are working to find the owner of two domestic horses found abandoned south of Challis on October 16.

A concerned person spotted the two horses about six miles west of Highway 93 on Spar Canyon Road. Idaho Falls District Rangers found the horses suffering from extreme malnutrition, dehydration and physical abuse.

Both horses were taken to a veterinarian where their feeding and watering were monitored. One of the horses died less than 12 hours after being located and removed.

The remaining horse is slowly gaining weight and is expected to survive.

BLM officials said possible violations include cruelty to animals, creating a hazard or nuisance, and abandoning personal property.

Anyone with information about the horses is asked to contact Idaho Falls District Ranger Dave Spain at (208) 303-0501.
