Local Veterans Day events

Here is a list of the various events and giveaways being held throughout the area to honor our local Veterans.

November 9th

Taylorview Junior High School-9:30 a.m. To 3 p.m. Veterans to talk to students in class after lunch followed by an all school assembly to honor Veterans

Highland High School – Annual assembly Monday, November 9th at 8:45 a.m. Color Guard, posting of Colors, performances by choir and band. Social Studies classes: citing and explaining the 6 basic principles of the Constitution, viewing “A More Perfect Union”. Completing a lesson on the First 10 Amendments, Lesson on “federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances, popular sovereignty, limited government, review of the requirements of citizenship and the test that is required.

November 10th

Idaho Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and Bank of Idaho-November 10th 5-6 p.m. Bank of Idaho 399 North Capital Idaho Falls. Signing a Statement of Support. Drinks and Hors d’oeuvres provided.

American Heritage School 2:15 p.m. Flag retirement ceremony.

Hillcrest Performing Arts Center 6:30 p.m. Capt. Skinner will present medals to Vietnam Veteran, school program for Veterans.

November 11th

Pocatello/Chubbuck Schools

Irving Middle School -10:30 a.m. All-school Veterans Day program with Veterans Home and Assisted Living residents as guests. Guest speaker, Marv McCall and music from IMS band and choir.

Hawthorne Middle School – 1 p.m. Veterans Day assembly and then the National Guard will set up obstacle courses outside for students.

Chubbuck Elementary – 1:15 p.m. Veterans Day assembly

Gate City Elementary – Students will honor Veterans Day through age-appropriate activities in the classroom.

Ellis Elementary – 8:25 a.m. Students and staff will assemble for flag raising and playing of Taps by the VFW.

Indian Hills put together a wall of pictures of their student’s family members who have served in the military.

Highland High School – 8:45 a.m. student will assemble in front of building for presentation of the Flag then proceed to the gym for the Veterans Day Assembly. Speaker is Freddie Flynn. Staff and students may invite Veterans.

Greenacres Elementary – 9 a.m. Veterans Day Assembly with 3rd graders singing patriotic songs.

Sryinga Elementary – Each class will have age-appropriate discussion about what it is to be a Veteran and how we can show respect to Veterans today and every day.

Jefferson Elementary – Creating a “Wall of Heroes” with family/friends who have been in the military.

Wilcox Elementary – Moment of Silence at 11:11 and an announcement first thing in the morning. Each grade will do age appropriate activity in classrooms.

Century High School – Wednesday, November 11th Annual Veteran’s Day Assembly at 8:35 a.m. Raising of the Flag, Pledge of Allegiance, 21-gun salute, Taps, Posting of Colors, National Anthem, Guest Speaker, Century Band Patriotic Performance, Remember the Heroes video presentation. Social Studies classes will conduct a lesson on constitution. History classes will focus on the constitution and the primary principles. Government classes will focus on the first ten amendments.

New Horizon High School – November 11th. Special flag ceremony at 11 am with a moment of silence and then show a video from a field trip to the Veteran’s home. A NHHS student will sing the Star Spangled Banner.

Pocatello High School – November 11th, Veterans day assembly 9:30 – 10:30. Presentation of the Colors, National Anthem, video: The Bravest Among Us.

Downey Elementary – Students performing a veterans program at the Pocatello veterans home at 10 a.m.

Rexburg

Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce-November 11th 12:00 Noon, Rexburg Tabernacle 51 North Center 7th Annual Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony: Playing of the National Anthem, a wreath laying at the Veterans Memorial, a keynote speaker, a moment of silence and 21 gun salute.

Blackfoot

Blackfoot Performing Arts Center-November 11th 2015 10:30 to 11:30 a.m Carol Ash from the Minidoka Internment Camp Historical site speaks about the Japanese Americans who were interned there during WWII and their decision to enlist in the war.

Firth

Firth High School 10 a.m. Veterans Day Event.

Idaho Falls/Ammon Area

Ammon Elementary 8:45 a.m. Flag raising followed by school assembly

Rocky Mountain Middle School 8:45 a.m. School Assembly organized and put on by students.

Rimrock Elementary 9 a.m. School program for Veterans

Hillview Elementary 9:30 a.m. School Assembly

Tiebreaker Elementary 9:30 a.m. All third grader assembly

Falls Valley Elementary School 10 a.m. Talk to all 5th graders on patriotism and the military

Hospice at 3544 East 17th Street 11:30 a.m. Flag raising and new flagpole dedication

Fox Hollow Elementary School 1 p.m. School assembly honoring Veterans

Taylor Crossing Public Charter School 1 p.m. School Assembly

Lincoln Court 1:30 p.m. Program to honor Veteran residents

Eagle Rock Junior High School 2:30 p.m. Veterans in individual classes to talk to students

Island Park

Island Park Quilters making and giving patriotic quilts to all veterans that live in Island park. Member make blocks and meet once a month to sew them into quilts.

Businesses

Applebee’s-Free Meal from special menu for any veteran or active duty serviceman.

Arby’s Available all day, Free Roast Beef Classic Sandwich for activy duty soldiers and veterans.

Denny’s-5 a.m. to 12 noon Free build your own slam for veterans.

Golden Corral-9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free Dinner for veterans.

Hopkins Roden Lawyers 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.- Free simple will packages to local veterans, Call 208-523-4445 to schedule an appointment. First come first served.

IHOP-7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free Red/White/Blue pancakes for veterans.

Lava Hot Spings Pools-Free admission to pools for Veterans all day.

Lil Cesears- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free $5 lunch combo.

McCammon Chevron/A&W 12- 5 p.m. Will be giving out free ice cream cones to all veterans.

Outback Steakhouse- Free Bloomin Onion and beverage plus 15% off the rest of your bill.

Red Robin- Free Red’s Tavern Burger and bottomless steak fries.

Sizzler- Free lunch and beverage from limited menu.

Spray Me Down Car Wash (Ashment St)- 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Free Car Wash for veterans.

Texas Roadhouse- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free lunch for veterans.

November 12th

Idaho Falls National Guard Armory 6:00 p.m. Scout Veterans program
