Bannock county inmate in custody after attempted escape

The Bannock County Sheriff’s office disclosed Tuesday that an inmate attempted to escape the Bannock County Detention Facility at around 10 a.m. Sunday.

According to deputies, Ryan Bant, 30, burst through the E-Pod Emergency fire Exit door into an outside recreation area. He then jumped and attempted to climb the fence, but got hung up on barbed wire at the top of the fence.

The Pod deputy immediately apprehended Bant. He was treated for small cuts from the wire and secured in the facility’s booking holding area.

The incident is under investigation.

Bant could face felony charges of attempted escape.

He was originally being held on a $2,000 bond on two misdemeanor counts for vehicle theft and providing false information to a police officer.
