Jackson man killed attempting to cross Highway 89

A Jackson man was killed while walking across US Highway 89 near milepost 149, approximately one mile south of Jackson, at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said Andrew S. Weber, 51, attempted to cross the five-lane section of highway in the dark while wearing dark clothing. He was struck by a 2010 Toyota Highlander. The driver, 47-year-old Richard McMullen of Jackson, did not see Weber as he darted in front of his SUV. The impact through Weber into the left hand lane of northbound US 89. After coming to rest, Weber was then struck by two more northbound vehicles before traffic came to a stop.

The Highway Patrol said alcohol use by Weber may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The highway was temporarily closed. Traffic was detoured around the crash scene.
