Alzheimer’s awareness

Twenty-three thousand seniors in Idaho live with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to grow 43 percent over the next 10 years.

The Alzheimer’s Association is teaming up with local senior care businesses and the community to raise awareness at an event tomorrow evening.

The purpose is to educate care providers or anyone who wants to learn more about Alzheimer’s.

Scott Holmes, chief executive officer of ‘Visiting Angels’ will be there.

He says it’s important to know the facts.

“The quality of life of those impacted by Alzheimer’s can be improved while there’s no cure for the disease. So it’s important for family caregivers as well, so they know how to better help their mom or their dad.”

The event is Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Morning Star Assisted Living, at 4000 South Hitt Road.

The Alzheimer’s Association also has two events planned for 2016 including a walk against Alzheimer’s.
